Grandpa (nicknamed Lambpa!) and Everleigh were in a huge pen at a live auction being sold right before Easter on Palm Sunday, likely for holiday dinner. Grandpa and Everleigh are babies and had to be bottle-fed around the clock every four hours. Within a few days they showed signs of pneumonia, which is common with babies that don't build up immunities nursing from their mothers. Luckily, Grandpa and Everleigh saw a vet right away and started IV antibiotics. It took a solid 2 weeks for them to fully recover, which they have! Now in the clear, they will live out their days at Riley Farm Sanctuary!
Woody was rescued in May 2018 from a large-scale New York dairy farm. Like all male dairy calves, Woody was taken away from his mother shortly after birth so that the milk meant for him could be used for human consumption. Thankfully, Woody was rescued and now lives at Woodstock Sanctuary with his best friend, Colin, where they cause mischief in the woods together!
Mario is one of the lucky pigs featured in the documentary The Last Pig. Mario was being raised for slaughter and consumption, until farmer Bob Comis chose to step away from the animal farming industry, and sent his last pigs, including Mario, to sanctuaries. Mario lives at Catskill Animal Sanctuary with his best friend, Audrey, loves belly rubs and even smiles when he gets attention.
Ruthie Jean was rescued when she fell off a truck en route to the slaughterhouse. She was found badly injured along a roadside. After surgery and physical therapy, Ruthie Jean is now a strong, healthy and happy girl, who is curious and enjoys eating blueberries and being petted!
Matumbo, or “Tumby,” was rescued from an illegal animal slaughter farm in West Palm Beach, Florida by Animal Recovery Mission (“ARM”). Barely able to breathe, Tumby had to have extensive surgery. Now Tumby loves to roam around the sanctuary, eating bananas and berries off his Mulberry tree. A fan favorite, Tumby is a very friendly goat with a lot of personality!
